Learning today, thriving tomorrow.

Contact us

Welcome to Waterside School

Every learner who joins us holds an Education, Health and Care Plan, and every place is funded by the local authority.

All learners at Waterside School are known by name and by need. We build consistent relationships with the same trusted adults every day, and we deliver a curriculum and school day that are shaped around the individual, not the other way around.

If you are looking for a SEN school that takes the time to genuinely understand your child, you are in the right place.

About us

Waterside School was founded to create a specialist SEND school in Coventry where learners with special educational needs can feel safe, supported and genuinely ready to learn.

We are an independent school, which means we are able to do what is right for our learners.

Our School Day

Our school day runs from 9am to 2:30pm and is structured around the needs of learners with SEND, with learning delivered in manageable blocks, regular breaks for regulation and play, and a calm, consistent environment throughout.

‍
We operate at a 3:1 staff-to-learner ratio, giving every learner the level of support and attention they need.

Our Curriculum

A curriculum built around every learner. Every learner at Waterside School holds an EHCP, and their individual needs and targets shape everything we do.

Your questions answered

Does my child need an EHCP to attend Waterside School?

Yes. All places at Waterside School are available only to learners who hold a current Education, Health and Care Plan issued by their local authority.

How is a place at Waterside School funded?

All places are funded by the local authority as part of your child's EHCP. Families do not pay fees directly.

Does Waterside School have a waiting list?

No. We do not hold a waiting list. All referrals are considered on an individual basis as they are received.

Can my child start mid-year?

Yes. We accept admissions throughout the year, not just in September. We understand that many families cannot wait until the start of a new academic year.

How do referrals work?

All referrals to Waterside School are made via your local authority SEN team as part of the EHCP process. We accept referrals throughout the year and are always happy to speak with families who are in the early stages of exploring their options.

Belonging

is where everything starts. We want every learner who joins us to feel that they are genuinely welcome here, that they are safe, valued, and part of a community that knows them well. For many of our learners, that sense of belonging is something they have not experienced in a school before.

Engagement

shapes how we approach learning. We know that a learner who does not feel settled or secure will not be able to engage with even the best planned lesson. We think carefully about how we present learning, how we structure the day, and how we keep learners motivated and interested. When engagement is right, progress follows.

Independence

is what we are working towards for every learner. We want learners who leave Waterside School to have the practical skills, the self-awareness, and the confidence to navigate life beyond school. Academic progress matters, but it is only part of the picture.
