Our Learners

SEND Conditions We Support at Waterside School

Finding the right school for your child can feel like an uphill struggle, and we understand that better than most. If your child holds an EHCP and you feel that a small, specialist SEN school in Coventry could be the right environment for them, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We are an independent specialist SEND school in Coventry for learners aged 9 to 18.

Every learner who joins us holds an Education, Health and Care Plan, and every place is funded by the local authority. We are a small school by design, and that smallness is deliberate. It means every learner is known, understood, and supported as an individual.

We know that for many families, the journey to finding the right SEN school has not been straightforward. We are here to change that experience. At Waterside School, we take the time to understand every learner who comes through our doors, and we build everything around what they need to feel safe, settled and ready to learn.

All our staff are experienced specialists in SEN education.

We know that finding the right school for a child with special educational needs can be one of the most stressful and emotional journeys a family goes through. Too many learners spend years in settings that were never quite right for them, and the impact of that can be significant. We exist because we believe every child deserves a school that genuinely understands them.

All our staff are experienced specialists in SEN education. We have built our school, our environment, our curriculum and our approach around our learners.

Whilst every learner we work with has their own unique profile of needs, there are some things our learners tend to have in common.

They thrive with:

  • Small group settings and high levels of adult support
  • Consistent, predictable routines with clear expectations
  • Trusted relationships with the adults around them
  • Flexible, fluid learning that does not overwhelm or pressurise
  • A calm, carefully managed environment that supports regulation
  • An approach that recognises their strengths, not just their challenges
  • Genuine opportunities to be heard, to make choices, and to have a say

These are the key things we have built Waterside School around, and they are the reason our learners make the progress they do.
