At Waterside School, we believe that every learner with special educational needs deserves access to a full and meaningful curriculum. What sets us apart is not what we teach, but how we teach it. Our school day is carefully designed to give learners the breadth of a good education without the overwhelm that a traditional school structure can bring. Waterside School is an independent specialist SEND school in Coventry for learners aged 9 to 18. We are a dedicated team, and we take great pride in the environment we have built here, both for our learners and for the people who work with us.

Developing communication, reading, writing, and language skills in a way that is accessible and engaging for every learner.
Building numeracy, problem solving, and mathematical understanding through practical and relevant approaches.
Exploring the world around them through curiosity, investigation, and hands-on learning.
Supporting learners to understand themselves, their relationships, and the world they live in. Personal, social, and health education is woven into everything we do at Waterside School.
Our life skills curriculum is one of the things that makes Waterside School genuinely different. We teach learners the practical, everyday skills they will need to live as independently as possible, from managing daily routines and communication to navigating social situations and building confidence for life beyond school.
PE at Waterside School is about much more than physical fitness. It supports learners to develop teamwork, resilience, coordination, and a positive relationship with physical activity.
Creative learning plays an important role at Waterside School. Through art, music, and other creative subjects, learners are given the opportunity to express themselves, build confidence, and develop skills that sit outside the traditional academic framework.
We know that for many learners with SEND, a long and relentless school day can be exhausting, stressful, and counterproductive. At Waterside School, we do things differently. Learning is broken into manageable blocks throughout the day, separated by regular play sessions, movement breaks, and time for regulation. This keeps learners engaged, supports their wellbeing, and means they are in the right headspace to learn when lessons are taking place. It is a structure that works and our learners thrive within it.
